who would be the audience for your media product?

“Here is a profile of a typical member of my target audience”
AGE: 19

GENDER:  FEMALE

STUDENT IN FURTHER EDUCATION

ETHNIC: WHITE BRITISH

FOOD LIFE STYLE PREFERENCE: VEGETARIAN

FAVOURITE TV SERIES: SKINS

FAVOURITE FILMS: THE ART OF GETTING BY, DONNIE DARKO

FAVOURITE BOOKS: PERKS OF BEING A WALL FLOWER, THIRTEEN
REASONS WHY, PAPER TOWNS AND THE FAULT IN OUR STARS.

MUSIC: BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB, ENTER SHIKARI, CRYSTAL CASTLES.

These particular results on the profile are mainly popular with a young adult late teen demographic.  The psychographics of the average reader would be a student lifestyle with similar likes and interests as shown above. The target audience that im basing around would be late teen early adults that read magazines more as pleasure. This age range would mostly be interested in the media in a way of helping them find themselves and their own individual styles instead of perhaps the younger ages which all appear to like similar music’s, which is why appealing to such a wide audience is so important.
I feel that these people would buy/ subscribe to my magazine as there isn’t one out there that has both music and fashion for this particular genre and age target. For example, it would be a lot cheap buying my magazine than buying a fashion magazine and then a music magazine. My research showed that the target audience based around my magazines disposable income was 40+ pounds a month.
The kind of advertising that would attract this audience would be more gig advertisement, exclusive information on bands, new fashion styles and also freebees/competitions. I think music plays an incredibly big part of young people’s lives which is why I feel that anything which is free or up for grabs, they would be straight in to try and get involved.

If you were going to make this stereotypical I guess the ‘uk tribes’ (found on http://www.uktribes.com/) would show that the typical groups of people that would be interested in my magazine would be the indie scenesters which links in with young alts, townies, geeks trendies and some others. This is an area however that I don’t want to focus on, as stereotypical grouping isn’t how I’d like my magazine to focus. Id like it to focus around the music and the fashion of different styles so that people can find themselves, not slot into a group.
